MetaFilter attracts an eclectic mix of people. It has a take-no-prisoners approach to n00bs (new members) and to the opinionated MeFi veteran with a weak post.

Membership periodically opens and closes depending on the whim of founder Matt Haughey. It’s a rough and tumble place with a mix of news, politics, trolls, trash, agendas and more. It’s low signal to noise ratio is annoying. MeFi requires some focused lurking before jumping into the fray (especially on the front page) with a good post.
