Free Image Hosting
June 24, 2005 | In web design | No CommentsBlogger’s new image upload feature (the photo icon on the tool bar) enables users to upload and display images in their posts.
Useful for those who host their blog with Blogger. For others, like this blog, the images are uploaded to the FTP account hosting the blog, rather than to Blogger’s image server.
Other free image hosting resources for bloggers, message board users, and online sellers include ImageShack and ImageVenue.
No need to register, no size and bandwidth limit, but ImageVenue has limited image types allowed. ImageShack limits file size to 1024kb. However, you can upload a wide variety of images like .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .tif, .swf, and .png image types. (Flickr is oriented towards sharing photos).

The Principles of Design
June 16, 2005 | In web design | No Comments This column is about Web designreally, it isthough it may at times seem a bit distant and distracted. In my opinion, any good discussion about design begins with the fundamentals. Almost by definition, the primary tenets around which any field is based are universal: they can be applied to a variety of disciplines in a variety of ways. This can cause some confusion as principle is put into practice within the unique constraints of a particular medium.Lets begin by focusing on the principles of design, the axioms of our profession. Specifically, we will be looking at the following principles:
- Balance
- Rhythm
- Proportion
- Dominance
- Unity
