Blog Action Day

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Look for BinaryWolf at blogs that joined on the 23rd of August for the upcoming BlogActionDay.

On October 15th – , bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind.

In its inaugural year, Blog Action Day will be co-ordinating bloggers to tackle the issue of the environment.

Bloggers can participate on Blog Action Day by publishing a post on their blog which relates to an issue of their own choice pertaining to the environment. Posts do not need to have any specific agenda, they simply need to relate to the larger issue in whatever way suits the blogger and readership. Our aim is not to promote one particular viewpoint, only to push the issue to the table for discussion.

Regular readers of this blog know that I have a treehugger category. New readers may also want to look at my vehicles category which at first glance may not seem environmentally friendly, but you generally have to read the entire post to see where I am going with it.

If you sign up, consider adding a comment about it here.

How to Back Up iTunes to a USB Flash Drive

Monday, August 20th, 2007

iTunes includes a Back Up to Disc option under the File menu. It guides you through the steps needed to your playlists, audio and video files to a CD or DVD for safekeeping, in case your hard drive goes bad and takes your media collection with it.

As an alternative, you can drag copies of your file to an external hard drive or USB flash drive. Once you have your backup drive connected to the computer, you need to find your iTunes files:

Windows XP or 2000 My Documents > My Music > iTunes folder.

Vista Music folder > iTunes.

Mac Home folder > Music > iTunes.

Dragging the entire iTunes folder to your external drive icon makes a copy of your media files, playlists, album artwork folder and library database. If you don’t have room for all that and just want to back up selected albums or songs, open the folder called iTunes Music, which is inside the main iTunes folder. The tracks are sorted into folders by artist name with album folders inside, so find the files you want to back up and drag them to your external drive.

Hummer H3 Alpha V-8

H3 Hummer

The H3 delivers off-road capability in a more accessible, midsize (one man’s midsize is another man’s large) package. It can navigate city traffic (you might need an optional rear view camera to park one of these) and also deliver Hummer’s trademark crawling and climbing capability.

The new H3 Alpha offers a 5.3 liter 300 horsepower V-8 engine with 320 foot-pounds torque that boost maximum towing capacity to 6,000 pounds. That’s a 33 percent improvement over the standard 242-hp, 3.7 liter five-cylinder inline engine that produces 242 foot-pounds torque.

While the V-8 is shared with other GM trucks, the H3’s oil pan was engineered to ensure constant oil pressure when climbing or descending steep grades. Another feature is the stronger front differential case made of cast iron. The five-cylinder model’s differential case is made of aluminum.

The is more “fuel-efficient” than the larger H2, plus at $39,260, the H3 Alpha is about $15,000 less expensive.

In other news, ice caps are melting and ice lounges are growing.

Free Leads for Web Developers

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

As a , you know that one of the most difficult parts of growing your business is finding new clients to work for. You have the skills to do the work, and the salesmanship to close the deal, but finding people who need the work done consumes too much of your time. That’s where Free Quotes World (FQW) comes in.

FQW generates targeted web development leads that are guaranteed to match your company’s profile. That profile is setup one-on-one with an account specialist so that you can be assured of getting only those kinds of leads that you want.

With FQW, you are in control of every aspect of receiving these leads. You control what kinds of leads you want to receive, how many leads you want to receive, and when you receive them. You are in complete control!

If you’re interested in growing your business, but are tired of the time it takes to find new clients, you should try out FQW.

Competitors

The nature of other leads services such as guru.com, domystuff.com, elance.com, getafreelancer.com or rentacoder.com, seems to heavily favor FQW is different because it targets North American companies looking to build a North American client base.

Using those other services means that you are competing with hundreds or even thousands of other developers, mostly on price. With FQW you are going up against a maximum of four other companies and you get the opportunity to personally explain what your professional services are and why they are worth paying for.

Through the end of August, FQW is waiving the set-up fee and giving away an additional $30 in free leads. You can try the company out risk-free and see just how much they can help you grow your business. If you decide you don’t like it or it’s not what you expect you can cancel and you are out exactly $0.00.

Update 10/30/07: FQW out of business? The handwriting was on the wall when my contact at FQW left them not very long after I first posted here. Today the FQW site was completely gone, showing only an ugly mysql_connect database error page. The lesson here is that startups with good intentions can quickly “go south” for a variety of reasons. Buyer beware.

sites open for business include elance.com, getafreelancer.com, rentacoder.com and gofreelance.com.
