Disable Quicken Registration Prompt

disable quicken nag screen

Plan, save and control your finances with Quicken Deluxe. It’s easier than ever to manage a personal budget, pay bills on time, track your investments, maximize tax deductions – and find more ways to save.

To disable the registration prompt (nag screen) for Quicken 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, and 2004:

1. Press and hold the Ctrl + Shift keys on the left side of your keyboard while you select the Online menu and select One Step Update.

Note: Using the Ctrl+Shift keys on the right side does not disable the prompt permanently and the following message does not appear.

2. When the message “You will no longer be prompted for registration” appears, click OK.

Online features such as online banking, security quotes download and product updates will work normally if you do not register your copy of Quicken.

Awesome! Works for 2007 also. I was about to go through the registry and all. Thanks!

btw, had trouble getting here… google points to your feed instead of your actual post.

  2. Diane says:

Thank you so much for such a simple solution!

  3. Thanks. My Quicken 2008 (windows xp) locks up when going through the registration screen. After I hit the Finish button, it locks up. Thanks for the tips to bypass that screen.

Thank you, Worked for 2009 also…. I was not able to type in the fields.

  5. Bob says:

Excellent! Thank you! Your tip works for Quicken 2003 as well, which I refuse to upgrade.

  6. Laura says:

THANK-YOU!!! Seems to be working excellent so far. I noticed that I needed to do exactly as you said and choose the MENU choice. Choosing the online icon did not seem to work (??). I own a legal copy of 2007, and do not want to upgrade either!

In the past I tried this (possibly suggested by Quicken help desk as one way to get rid of nag?): Edit>Preferences>Quicken Programs then clicked on Setup, and checked the [x] Automatically minimize popup windows. The latter seemed to work for a while, but somehow eventually the nag screen came back!

Anyway….Thank-you again for your solution, as it is working for me now!

Awesome. Thanks so much. This tip is incredibly helpful.

Thx! This tip worked perfectly in newly-installed Quicken Basic 2005 on my Vista 64-bit PC.

I had a never-used Q2005 CD that I got free (after rebate) with TurboTax for 2004, never installed it until now because Q2002 was working fine on my WinME PC. I was delighted that Q2005 installed on Vista (because I’m cheap, that’s why!) but there’s obviously no reason to register it now.

  9. Robson says:

    Hi,
Is it changing something in the windows register?

  10. Steve Jacobs says:

How in Quicken 2003, can I turn off the prompt screen that asks me every fricking time if I want to set up a new account.

    This is really annoying.

    Thanks

  11. Steve says:

Older versions of software, no mater how good or functional they are, get progressively more difficult to support as time goes by. I doubt that Quicken Customer Support would have the answer. Try Google Groups for crowd sourcing Q&A about outdated versions of Intuit’s Quicken.

  12. Rodster says:

Thanks works as well in Quicken 2010 Home and Business. I hate registering any software I have bought including Quicken. Actually this is the first Quicken i’ve bought since the late 90′s. I’ve been a Money user for a long time but Microsoft hasn’t updated their product in several years.

  13. sailorman ed says:

Had to reinstall Q2005 cuz of disk crash — this turned on registration nag. Trying to respond always produced “registration failed”. This worked perfectly — obviously Intuit built it in! Somebody should tell Intuit support!

  14. NaughtySpawn says:

I just did this with Quicken 2010 and it worked fine. You press CTRL + Shift and click the Update button. You then get a confirmation you won’t get prompted anymore.

    Thanks for the info!

  15. [...] Just I was about to remove it and write a pissed off email I can across the answer: Disable Quicken Registration Prompt [...]

  16. Oli Grünfeld says:

Thank you for the disable Quicken 2003 reg nag tip! — perfect :-)

  17. Larry Baron says:

    worked great.
couldn’t register if I wanted to since it will never connect ot the internet.
This is a 2004 version that I had to reinstall on a new window 7 computer. It seems that I remember that I had originally designated somewhere for the program to not be able to connect but could not find that now to register again so this hint solved that problem altogether

    Thanx

Nice find.. Running Quicken 2010 Home and Business and couldn’t get past the reg. page even if I wanted to provide the info.

This little trick worked like a charm.
