Earth Day Pacific Beach Cleanup

Tomorrow morning (Tuesday April 22, 2008) digital-telepathy and StayClassy.org are sponsoring the Earth Day 2008 2nd Annual Beach Cleanup Extravaganza!

We’re inviting all Earth-lovers to come help us clean up the beach this Earth Day 2008. We all love our San Diego beaches so come be a part of Earth Day cleanup and show how much you care!

Meet for breakfast at 9am at Cafe 976 and then help with the cleanup at 10:30am at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach.

BarCamp San Diego 3 is a gathering made up of of technical professionals, online enthusiasts, and other interesting people in the Southern California area who wish to share and learn in an open environment. BarCamp San Diego 3 is a fun weekend event beginning Saturday morning, May 3rd and ending late Sunday afternoon, May 4th.

There are plenty of parking spaces at UTC (the corner of La Jolla Village Drive and Towne Center Drive between the 5 and 805 Freeways). It’s a short walk over to BarCamp San Diego 3 at the MS offices at 9255 Towne Centre Dr. Suite 400.

Largest Free Annual Environmental Fair - EarthFair 2008

This coming Sunday, April 20th, brings EarthFair back to Balboa Park (San Diego). It is is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world. EarthFair 2008 is the 19th anniversary of the event. Each year, the EarthFair draws around 60,000 visitors.

EarthFair has traditional conservation organizations, wildlife preservation groups, products made from natural and organically grown crops, organic gardening information, alternative energy vehicles, ecotourism opportunities, many alternative and traditional health care products and services, pet adoption services, clean air and clean water products, rainforest preservation groups … the list goes on and on.

If you arrive after about 10:30 am, there is often no parking immediately adjacent to the Park. If you drive and plan to arrive after 11 am, don’t drive directly to the Park. A free shuttle service will take you between the Fair and an off-site parking location at City College. From the 163 freeway exit follow the signs. From Park Blvd., you will turn on Russ. Go to the end and turn right. You can park in the lots opposite Garfield Jr. High School; the shuttle stop is marked with a sign. The shuttle runs from 10:30 am to 6 pm.

Free Online File Conversion

Zamzar offers a good free online file conversion service. You upload the file to convert, select the output format, enter your email, and you’re done. Soon you’ll get an email with a unique link taking you to a page where you can download the converted file, which remains accessible for a day. You can also upload multiple files in a batch.

Zamzar converts to and from a variety of image, audio, and video file formats ranging from the common to the obscure. You don’t need an account to get Zamzar to convert files, although having one will get a file converted faster, will give you more online storage, a larger individual file capacity of up to 1GB and no banner ads.

If you work primarily with smaller files (up to 100mb), the free service is sufficient. You will most likely get email linking to your converted file usually within half an hour of submitting it. Viewing a few ads in exchange for the free conversion service is a sweet deal.
