YouTube Ready Digital Cameras

July 11, 2007 | In photography, video | No Comments

Casio EX-S880
Casio has introduced a couple of new digital cameras that record movies in Quicktime format (mov/H.264) ready for uploading to YouTube or any other video sharing website.

Both new models come with a high-quality movie function that makes the most of next-generation H.264 compression technology. They also feature Casio’s new YouTube™ BEST SHOT™ Mode, which enables users to shoot and save movies at the optimum size, quality and other settings for YouTube™, the world’s most popular online site for sharing videos. Casio has also included an exclusive software application that makes it fast and simple to upload movies to YouTube™.

The 8 8.1 megapixel Casio EXILIM Card EX-S880 and 7.2 megapixel Casio EXILIM Zoom EX-Z77 are available in silver, red, pink, blue and black.

Both Casio cameras have a maximum movie recording time of 10 minutes (per file). If you need longer recording times, the relatively inexpensive Flip Video Camcorder from Pure Digital Technologies, comes in 30 and 60 minute versions and is a much simpler device to operate. The Flip Video Camcorder make it easy to capture video, it also makes it simple to instantly share it with friends, family or the world via YouTube. The video quality of the Flip Video Camcorder while not as good as the aforementioned Casio digital cameras, is good enough for YouTube.

Selling Your Images

May 16, 2007 | In photography | No Comments

Imagekind is a gallery, print-on-demand, and frame shop on the web.

One community for creating, buying, and selling art, Imagekind introduces a new development in print-on-demand services. Artists of all types including, digital photographers, photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, painters, printmakers and draftsmen, can sell their work online with a free Imagekind online art gallery. Customers can readily find a wide variety of wall art, framed art, digital photography and poster art on our site. Imagekind fine art prints can be ordered with millions of combinations of frames, papers, canvas types, and sizes.

You can markup your artwork as you see fit. Imagekind will automatically give you base costs for your image in each of the available sizes and different media options. From this base cost, you decide what markup will be applied to the artwork and displayed as the final cost to customers. You can choose to mark-up either using percentage terms or dollar terms. This markup amount is what you will earn on any artwork you sell and buyers will pay for any framing and shipping costs. You carry no overhead or inventory by using Imagekind

To sell your images, you upload your JPEG, PNG or TIFF image making sure that sure your image is big enough to make a small print. Your image must be at least 800 pixels on each side (e.g. 800px by 800px) to trigger the smallest print size. Watermarking is available. Imagekind is worth a look for both sellers and buyers.

Flickr Discontinuing Old Sign-in System

March 13, 2007 | In photography | No Comments

In a couple of days Yahoo! owned Flickr (online photo management and sharing application) will implement a policy that forces long-time users to migrate to a Yahoo! account.

I still sign in via the “Old Skool” log in page. Can I do that forever?

No. On March 15th, 2007 we’ll be discontinuing the old email-based Flickr sign in system. From that point on, everyone will have to use a Yahoo! ID to sign in to Flickr. So, you’ll need to merge your old skool Flickr account with a Yahoo! account before then - this can be a Yahoo! account you have already, or a brand new one. You can do this any time you like before March 15th, 2007 via the Merge Your Accounts page. (You’ll need to be signed in to Flickr before you start.)

It’s easy to do.

Finding Free Images with Flickr

December 13, 2006 | In photography | No Comments

Flickr Trick: Finding Free-to-Use Images details the steps to take to find Creative Commons licensed photos.

To find these photos on Flickr, go to Flickr’s advanced search page and enter your search criteria. Scroll down to the bottom of the search page and check the box that says “Only search within Creative Commons-licensed photos.” If your site is monetized by ads (even just Google Adsense), subscription access (even just for archives), or other means, then you probably want to play it ultra-safe and also check the “Find content to use commercially” box as well. Also, if you plan to crop, montage, or otherwise manipulate or remix found images, check the “Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon” box.
